Previously the ancient little fishing village Brighthelmston in the 18th Century has emerged as a bohemian health resort town Brighton. Nowadays over 8 million visitors visit Brighton every year. In 2009 Brighton was voted a second number, by European travelers, in the favorite UK destinations category on Tripadviser.
The economy of Brighton is stimulated primarily by tourism and business conference industry that prospers at the colossal Brighton Conference Center. That is why the town regularly hosting the conventions of Labour Party, Liberal Democrats, Conservative Party and annual Conferences of Trade Union.
There are two well-known universities - Brighton and the Sussex, and a medical school in Brighton. You can find here a healthy cultural scene, where the annual Brighton Arts Festival takes place each May. It is also interesting to visit the Royal Pavilion, the Edwardian Preston Manor, charming Sea Life Center, and a lot of art galleries and museums. The Royal Pavilion - is a fantastic seaside ex-royal palace that was built for the Prince Regent (George IV), in the early 1800s and is famous for its Indo-Saracen architecture and Oriental interior. The Sassoon Mausoleum – is another Indo-Saracen building in Brighton that is now a chic night club.

The Brighton Marine Palace and Pier (shortly "Brighton Pier") is a nice place with a funfair, arcade halls and restaurants that was opened in 1899.

The 11th century St. Nicholas Church, also known as "The Mother Church"- is the oldest in Brighton. Other noteworthy churches include placed in the heart of Brighton St Peter's Church and the highest in Britain masterpiece of 19th century - St Bartholomew's Church.

The Brighton festival holds on every year in May. It is the largest arts festival in the UK after Edinburgh's. Since 2002 together with Brighton Festival the Brighton Festival Fringe has been organized, and then has grown to be the 2nd largest extreme festival in the world.
